Our First Post

I have been contemplating on how to start this blog. I am regretting not starting it back in Sept. 2006 when our whole adoption experience initially started. There has just been so much that has happened since then. For a little background on us: We are Kami & Eric and we currently live in Southern New Hampshire. Our three major relationship high point thus far have been meeting on September 14, 2001, getting engaged July 26, 2003 and married July 17, 2004. We currently have 3 fur babies Vero, Sebastian & Osito and are anxiously awaiting the day that we meet our child. We are adopting from Kazakhstan using Wide Horizons for Children. We have requested a healthy baby under a year old. Our hope for this blog is to keep all our family and friends up-to-date on our adoption news. I also hope it helps ease the minds of other families in the process that may be reading this. The reassurance that I have felt from reading other families blogs has been priceless to me.

The current status of our adoption: Our paperwork is at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Kazakhstan an as of today it has been there for 8 full weeks. Much longer than we hoped and unfortunately our agency has no idea when it may make the next move to the Ministry of Education (MOE). We pray and hope it will be very soon. The not knowing has been the hardest part of this whole experience. If we could just get some answers as to why things are taking so long it would ease our minds so much. Once our paperwork does move to the MOE we hear it will take at least another 6+ weeks to get through that stage. But once it does our paperwork will go to our agencies partners working in Kazakhstan. These are the people that find a child for us and invite us over to Kazakhstan to finalize our adoption. Unfortunately again this phase can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. It is really beginning to set in that our hopes of meeting our child before the end of 2007 will most likely not happen. I can’t even put into words how sad that makes us feel. We initially submitted our paperwork to Kazakhstan in March of this year so we have been waiting for a very long time with no end in sight.

Hopefully we will have good news to post soon. I will also post our timeline of events that got us to this point and things we still need to do aside from just waiting.

I think your blog is awesome, too. I'm so sorry your paperwork is taking so long. Maybe it's because God has picked some very special child for you and he/ she isn't in exactly the right place yet so God is having your paperwork stay in the office. I do believe everything happens for a reason and I'd like to think some higher power is watching over us but it's more likely just the Khazakstan Buereaucracy. Best wishes and I'll highlight this so I can check it again later. Kristina.

This blog idea is just FANTASTIC. Now when I want an update I can come here instead of bugging you so much! Let us know if there is anything we can do and remember once you start planning your trip to Kazakhstan to give us your detailed information. We'll hook you up with our friends family over there. They may prove to be a good support. Good luck with everything! Looking forward to that first picture of baby Dykes.

I have a friend who is adopted from another country and her mother kept a adoption journal and gave it to her and she loves it. You will get the perfect baby that is why it is taken so long. Good luck can't wait to meet the newest Dyke.
