Who we are expecting. . .

We have requested a baby under 12 months old in good health or the best likelihood of good health. We could have requested a specific gender but decided that was not necessary for us. We will be thrilled with either! Although we both have to admit at this point that we are really expecting to be match with a little boy. We say this because we have been told numerous times that girls are requested more often so they tend to go to the families that request them. Buying stuff to get ready for the baby has been a challenge since we don’t know the gender or size. They just don’t make many clothes bigger than 6 months in neutral colors. Due to this fact we decided it would be best for our potential daughter to be dressed more like a boy than our potential son to be dressed more like a girl. We have bought a few 6 month size things but mostly 9 to 12 month stuff. We are expecting the baby to be around 15 to 18 pounds. Our little one will initially have lots of light blue to wear. We have found some stuff in white, light green, light orange, and yellow. If we have a girl we will buy tons of pink and purple as soon as we get her back to the states. If we have a boy as we expect, he will be pretty much all set with clothes. Our friend, Aiden (who is 2), has handed down tons of clothes that he has grown out of. Thank you, Aiden!

People have recently been asking more and more about what we will name our baby or if we can name our baby. So here are our thoughts on this one. Our baby will have a name when we meet him or her. What we are most likely planning on doing is making that name the middle name. Then we will give our child a new first name. But we may fall in love with our child’s given name and just keep it the way it is. I really don’t think we will know for sure till after we meet the child and spend some time together. I believe, we will have till our court day to decide on what we want our child’s legal name to be.

Boy Names - Lincoln “Linc” - This is our all time favorite. We do have one other name that we both like but for now we are keeping that one a secret. We might use it for our second son. We don’t want anyone to steal it between now and then. ;) Some of the other boy names we considered – Owen (this was our original favorite), Nicholas, Jonathon, Kristopher, Andrew (Eric’s middle name), Cameron, Dean, Gage, Benjamin, Lucas, Scott and Blake.

Girl Names – Elizabeth “Izzie” for short OR Healey - We really like both of these so if we get a girl we will decide after we meet her. Some of the other girl names we considered – Kendra (Eric’s favorite), Robin or Lily (Kami’s favorites), Isabella, Kendall, Leigha, Abigail, Sophie, Olivia, Sydney, Kennedy, Corrina, Carrissa, Erica, Kate, Selena, Laurel, and Hannah. It was so easy finding girl names that we both liked.

Wow! We have been going through the same thing within the past month or so. We don't have a gender preference but are somewhat anticipating a boy given the odds (something like a 70% chance). But finding gender-neutral baby clothes was a real challenge as you found out! So, our girl too, if our baby turns out to be one, will be somewhat of a tomboy until we can get home. And, of course, the nursery decor is gender neutral as well! I bought most stuff in 9-12 months figuring that I can roll up the sleeves if needed and a couple of things in 6-9 months (though I've heard of some wearing 3-6 months!). I figure that the baby house will get some clothes donations either way. I do know that all of these decisions have been rough as I don't know the difference between a 'binky' and a 'nuk' let alone the diapers, formulas, etc etc!

If I didn't post it before, we are at http://climbingcradlemtn.blogspot.com.

Good luck with your journey - and CUTE names!

Hi Guys!
I love your baby names. Maybe you should just have 10 boys and 10 girls, then you can use them all : ) I hadn't thought about the issue with neutral colors over 6 months, how frustrating. Can't wait to see you both for Christmas.
Love, Kirsten & Jake

Hello!

I don't think I've said hello before, but I love the names you are considering! We actually have several of the same ones on our name polls on our blog. :-)

I have been lucky to find quite a few gender-neutral clothing items! I have a few photos of some of them posted on my blog. Just keep your eyes peeled, and they pop up out of nowhere.

We're looking forward to following your journey.

Best,
Regina (and Frank)
