From reading some of the other family blogs I have gotten some really good ideas. One of these ideas was from Christy who was sleeping with a little stuffed animal that she planned to give to her daughter. By sleeping with the toy it will become scented with her scent which she hoped it would be comfort to her daughter when she is in her crib. I thought this was the sweetest idea so for the last few weeks we have been sleeping with the cutest little giraffe that we plan to give to our baby that first day that we meet him/her. I imagine the nights when we are at our hotel/apartment and our little one is at the baby house are going to be SO HARD, so I am hoping this little giraffe is a comfort to you baby.

That is an awesome idea..and I am sure it will be great comfort to both "Baby Dykes" and to you knowing that even though you aren't able to be with your new baby for those first few nights that there will be a part of you with him/her....

You may also want to do that with a blanket. When Samantha was a baby, I would sleep with a blanket for her to take to day care with her the next day while I was in school.
Very cute and good idea. We have a monkey for LB so I guess we'll have to start sleeping with him. Oh well, what is one more furry creature in the bed with us?!
P.S. I also heard that you should take photos of the giraffe with the people and places that the child will see once they are home as it gets their attention and they make the connection.
Oh my, that's the cutest stuffed giraffe! That's a great idea. one thing I did was take my own blanket to put on the floor for them to play on, then when they came back to the apartment they had the same blanket to play on, anything to make it seem familier with the visits.
