One more speed BUMP

Last Thursday (Jan. 10th) at 5:06pm an email comes into our inbox that says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Kazakhstan is requiring new Power of Attorney Forms from all families awaiting their Letters of Invitations (LOI). So we had two forms that we needed to have notarized then taken to our Secretary of States office to be apostilled. Once completed, we return the two forms to our adoption agency. Then they will send the forms over to Kazakhstan to the MFA office. Hopefully our LOI will be issued at this point.

Grrr…we have been sitting back waiting for Kazakhstan to celebrate their holidays and waiting for people to enjoy their month long vacation. Now that they are all back to work we find out Oops we need more paperwork from you. Great you couldn’t have told us this last month before you went on vacation??? I don’t have the words to express to you how frustrating this news was to us.

Last Friday morning we got up called the Secretary of States office to see what hours they are open on Friday’s. As our luck with have it, they of course were closed for the day. Saturday we went to our bank and got the two documents notarized. Monday we had a snow storm so again the office was closed. Finally today, Tuesday I was able to drive up to Concord, NH and get our two documents apostilled. I then took them directly to the post office and mailed them express to our adoption agency. Fingers crossed they receive the mailing early enough in the day to process it on their end and get it mailed out to Kazakhstan for us. Hopefully we will have no more surprises.

January is slipping by in a hurry, we are still holding out hope that we will get our LOI before the end of the month. As of today it has been 40 days since we found out that a child has been located and matched to us. This past Sunday (Jan. 13th) was our 10 month anniversary of submitting our documents.

Dear Baby,

Please be patient, we are racing over the speed bumps as fast as we can trying to get to you. We think about you everyday wondering what you are doing, if you are happy and healthy. We love you and we will be there as soon as we can.

Love hugs and kisses,

Mommy and Daddy

Kaz changes it's rules and regulations all the time. We had were almost ready to travel when we were told they just made the rule that they needed color copies of passports (before that black and white was fine). We had to scramble to find a way to get color copies of something every copy service told us was illegal to make color copies of.

Another family we know were already IN Kaz when they made this new rule and they still had to do it. So, they had to find somewhere to get it done in Kaz.

The good thing is, that it is a small delay. It only put us back from leaving by a few days so it really won't affect you much.
