Lincoln was in a bit of a better mood today but he still isn’t feeling great. His congestion actually seems to be getting worse instead of better. I believe he is also teething again. He is has been chewing on his teether and fingers a lot. We now also sucks his thumb once in awhile. We are guessing he learned this from Gabe.
During Lincoln’s morning nap today all three of us took a nap. He usually sleeps close to two hours, figures the one day we all wish to lay down and rest he only sleeps for an hour. He fell asleep this morning curled up on the bed with me. It was so cute.
On today’s walk we went to the baby mall. We thought it was just a baby store but once we got inside realized it was a whole mall of baby and kids stuff. Other than being super expensive they had a nice selection of stuff. We got Lincoln a bottle with handles on it hoping he likes it so much that he will start drinking water for us more. We also bought him a short sleeve onies and two pair of knit pants. Like us he needs some cooler clothes since it is nearly 70 outside. Plus the heat is still on. The government doesn’t shut it off till April 15th so that should tell you how HOT it is inside our apartment. Thankfully when we have our glass doors open we do get a little bit of a breeze.
When we were out on our walk today Lincoln ended up falling asleep in my arms. Since he was asleep we ended up walking around a little more than we planned. It was lunch time so we stopped at a German restaurant to eat. We walk in and Gen, Joel and Gabe were having lunch. They might think we are stalking them now but we had no idea they were planning on eating there. We sat down with them and ordered and just after our food arrived Lincoln of course was woken up. He wouldn’t fall back asleep so Gabe was sweet enough to give up the one and only high chair to Lincoln. They were pretty much done eating at this point anyway.
At 4:00 today Lena came by to say good bye to us. She is leaving Sunday to go to the states. She was sweet and brought us half dozen donuts from Domino Donuts. This donut shop uses all the same logos and colors as Dunkin Donuts. We saw someone with a donut box and got all excited that there was a Dunkin Donuts in town. The donuts are ok nothing like Dunkin. The coffee from what we hear is awful. They also have in town a King Burger that uses all of Burger Kings colors. I had a burger from there it was not that great, nothing like Burger King. The fries were almost the same as what they have at McDonalds.
This evening we met up with Sara, Julian and Baby Zoe for dinner. They live in Toronto Canada and we found each other through an online friend. We have met some of the nicest people on this adventure. Zoe is 14 months old, cute as button with black curly hair. She is about the same size as Lincoln but a little more advanced with her walking skills. Plus she knows how to share her toys really well. This is something we are hoping Linc learns soon. We ate at a Chinese restaurant near our hotel. It was really good, some of the best food we have had in Kaz. It was very expensive so even though it was good I doubt we will go back. Lincoln did remarkable well on our outing. We were gone from 5:00 to 8:00. They had one high chair which we used with Lincoln. Zoe sat like an angel on her Moms lap. It was a really nice high chair only problem no tray. We brought his cereal and he ate that well we were waiting for our food to come. He got antsy by the last half hour or so and just wanted down. Since we were the only people in the place we let them down to play and walk/crawl around. First time in my life I sat on the floor in an expensive restaurant to play. It wasn’t till I was on the floor for five minutes or so when I realized Oh I am sitting on the floor playing in a really nice restaurant. It just felt natural to get down and play with my son.
We broke the “laws” for babies in Kaz this evening. We took our son outside with only a sweater and baby hat on. No huge bulky jacket. I have to say Lincoln was much happier not to be sweating. We did wrap him up in Eric’s sweater for the very short walk back to our hotel in the evening.

70 degrees, I am so jealous!! We are dying for spring to hit here. It was 15 when we got up today, but is supposed to be in the 50's all week. That's so cool the Torch Relay is going thru there! If you see Coca-Cola handing out anything that's probably my old employer ignition's doing!
Yes, you looked happy walking around with only a t-shirt on! That's great that you are running into other families in Almaty. Sounds like a trip highlight to be able to get to know others experiencing the same things and meet their children. Can't wait! (though I'm going to just melt in Almaty as it looks like we'll be there in June at the earliest now) In fact, I had to go shopping last weekend to buy warm weather travel clothes for me and for our kiddo - I'll take the 6-9 mos fleece jumpers as donations but can't see wearing them now. I guess if it's really hot - you can always go with just a diaper indoors.
You seem to be a real natural at this parenting thing (I'm still a little intimidated by the thought of it). Keep having a good time and can't wait to hear more!
I'm so glad to see you've hooked up with the Yeomans. Zoe is a doll, no? How nice to share this experience with others who really understand!
You are in the home stretch. I hope you enjoy the springtime in Almaty and that Lincoln is completely over his illness now that the antibiotics have kicked in.
As Kelly said, you guys do look like naturals. :-)
Wow, are you going to be in for a weather shock when you get back home! Love seeing you in short sleeves - gives us hope for what is coming for us sooner or later. Hope you get some good pictures of the torch relay - that's amazing that it is going through your city - I believe in the US it will only go through San Francisco. Good luck with your paperwork - hope you hear good news soon. love, mom and dad
