Our second day together

We survived another day here in Aktobe. Unfortunately it was an overcast drizzle and very cold day out so Lincoln and I were not able to go to the Nauriz festival. Eric went along with some of the other adoptive families in town and also with our translator, Biyanna. He took some pictures and video of the festival and had a really nice time. Lincoln and I survived our first 3 hours together all alone. It went really well he even slept during some of it for me.

Lincoln had his first company today. Agnes, Karla and Ben stopped over after the festival to see us. Karla and Ben had not met him yet so it was fun to be able to show him off. He knows Agnes from visits at the baby house and he just watched her with this look on his face. It was like he was trying to figure out how she got out of the baby house in order to visit him. It was probably somewhat confusing for him but after a few minutes he adjusted to the company and he had fun being able to show off to a bigger crowd. It was rejuvenating for me to have some company since I haven’t left the apartment since Lincoln came home.

Lincoln woke up this morning at 4:30 and we gave him a bottle, changed his diaper and he went back to sleep till 8AM. Eric and I enjoyed that very much after the 6AM wake up, yesterday. This of course thru his whole day off schedule both his eating and sleeping but we adjusted and he did pretty good for the most part. We are trying to keep him on a very similar schedule to what the baby house did for him in hopes it helps with all the changes he is going through. Once we get home his whole schedule will change getting him use to the new time zone. The nine hour difference will surely mess him up. We figure then we will change his schedule to more what we think is best for him.

He is getting really good at balancing and we have been encouraging him more to walk with the furniture and with us. Twice today once with each of us he actually took one step without holding on to anything. We both think they were mistakes but he still did it. We tried to get him to walk between us but he gets too excited and is not able to concentrate enough for it, yet. He was a bit cranky today because he was off his schedule and his cold his starting to bother him more. We are guessing the baby house was giving him medicine for his cough but they neglected to tell us that. We are taking him to our pediatrician at home the day after we make it but now that we don’t know when that is. Eric bought him some medicine today at the pharmacy with help from Karla and Ben but we need to figure out how much to give him before we can start using it. The directions are of course all in Cyrillic.

I think we are going to have a long night tonight. We have been trying to get Lincoln soundly to sleep for more than two hours now. He spoiled us by being so excellent the first couple of nights.

*Sorry for no photos...my son is asleep finally and I need to go do the same. It is late here and our day tomorrow surely will begin bright and early.

Hi Kami & Eric!

Patti and I just returned home from our first trip to Kazakhstan last night. Because of the horrible internet connection, we were only able to visit your blog once or twice while we were away. I'll get caught up in the next day or two!

Lincoln looks wonderful! I hope you are able to make it home soon! We have only been home for about 14 hours but I can tell you - "There's NO place like home"!

We should be returning to Kaz in about 3 weeks. We can't wait to bring Daniel home!

Kami,

I think you are doing a great job on your blog. Just think this is something that Lincoln can look back and read all about how he came to be your son. I am so happy for you guys. James and I were talking just this morning about you and how happy we are and I got all choked up. There is nothing better than the feeling oh being a new mom. Eric told James that he hasn't seen you this happy in a long time and that is wonderful- you have many things to be happy about. I can't wait to help celebrate his first birthday with you guys.

Congratulations on your second day! I can't believe he is almost walking already! Sorry to hear about the cold coming back... Two words for you "Vick VapoRub" (or is that three?). I hear that it works well if you rub it on his feet and then put socks on (or his chest if that is too weird).

It seems as though you are adjusting just fine to having your son "home" with you. Trust all of us when we say you will find very little time for emailing, blogs, etc because all you'll be doing is enjoying your new bundle of joy. You will have many wonderful moments of getting to know each other in a whole new way. I am so happy for you.

Take care,
Love
