Lincoln did pretty well today for such a hectic day with so many new things for him.
He was very reserved acting today. Didn’t really say much or even smile, he just looked around and took it all in. He was a bit fussy here and there through out the day but this I feel was mostly because his feeding schedule was off by a lot.
Hopefully when we come home we can look at our schedule and make a plan before we leave on how to keep him happy, food and nap wise during the flights home.
He was a champ on the plane. He slept for over an hour and half and the flight. It was only two hours and ten minutes long. The landing was very rough and that of course woke him up. I was hoping he would stay asleep till we got checked into our hotel but once he woke up all the new sights kept him awake. Lincoln really enjoyed looking out the window before we took off but when the excitement of that wore off he mainly just wanted to get down and explore. He of course needed to just stay on or laps and that did not make him too happy.
Even though he did great on this flight, I still think we will be in for an interesting day when we come home. Our entire trip home will take more than 24 hours to do it but according to the clock it won’t take us this long because we will be time traveling backwards.
Svetlana, our coordinator, picked us up at the airport and drove us to our hotel. It was nice to finally meet her. She played a huge roll on us actually getting our invitation to come here for the adoption. As she drove us to our hotel, poor Lincoln had about enough by then. He started crying and was just not happy that I would not put him down. I ended up giving him a bottle of juice and he was then somewhat happier. We are staying at the Hotel Almaty (Alma-Ata). Our room is more expensive than we planned on but it is a nice size. It is basically a tiny apartment. We have 4 small rooms – bedroom, bathroom, tv room and sitting area. Lincoln was having a so much fun crawling all around and exploring when we first checked in. The best part, they gave us a crib and Lincoln loves it. Phew, I was so worried he wouldn’t want to sleep in it after last week of just sleeping on some blankets in the corner of the room. In our room we have a fridge but no microwave. Lincoln is use to having his formula, cereal, and veggies warmed up but he hopefully will eat them all at room temperature as we have no way to heat it.
Once we got settled in a bit we changed Lincoln and feed him a small lunch. Then we ventured outside for a short walk. Weather wise it is really nice here, not sure of the exact temp but I believe it was low 60s felt great to us. Lincoln seemed to enjoy our walk around even though he was a little fussy because his schedule changes. We also walked around the inside of our hotel figuring out where stuff was located. We stopped at a small café on our floor and Lincoln exploded. More stuff came out of that kid than he had even eaten today. It was awful it when all over me, the table, the floor and himself. The guy at the next table was eating and looked over and got up and left the café. That part was really funny but it was hard to ask for a mop to clean up with when we can’t speak the language here. You should have been there to see Eric act that out. Instead of just acting out mopping, he started by pointing at Lincoln then making a throwing up face, then he finally did the mopping motion. I am sitting there covered in vomit, watching Eric do charades and poor Lincoln was starring at me with this look of what the heck just happened to me? I could just tell he was trying to decide if he should cry or not. Oh my goodness it was so funny. We can now add projectile vomiting to our list of firsts. Sorry for being so graphic. We are assuming this was just his way of dealing with a big day of changes. Maybe we should wear slickers the day we come home.
SORRY no pictures, the internet connection in our room is too slow to upload them. We are working on finding faster service then we will add pictures.

OMG that bit about the vomiting and Eric acting everything out just cracked me up! Tearing up over here! I can totally imagine it all. Well good luck with the rest of your venture and looking forward to more stories!
Let me say, Welcome to parenthood! Projectile vomitting is just one of the many joys that comes along with the wonders of having a baby. I will share some stories with you later. I am sure you will be able to appreciate them more now.
Second, I laughed so hard at most of that post. You really can get a visual image of Eric standing there doing charades.
I am just glad that you can laugh at the situation. It really shows that you are ready to be a parent.
If you need me, I am an e-mail and alot of land and water away.
Hurry home,
Kim Robb
Well, at least it was only projectile vomiting. When you first said "he exploded" I was envisioning from the other end! Glad that wasn't the case...at least not yet! :-)
Hang in there...you are in the final stretch and will never have to play charades again unless it's at a party for fun!
The joys of parenthood! That is the first of many! In public too! You'll never have a dull moment from here on out! Sounds like he's doing well anyway. It seems like he deals with change really well. Your lucky he's so easy going. Take care and I'm glad you made it there OK! Love, Terri and family XOXOXO
Glad to here Lincoln did so well at traveling. Your so lucky he is so laid back and adjusts to change well.
The story about the projectile vomiting was to funny, I'm sitting here laughing and the kids had to come see what was so funny. Picturing Eric doing charades to clean up vomit, how funny.
Enjoy your time in Almaty. Soon you will be on your way home.
Love,
Kelly
What an adventure - and at least you saw the humor in it all! I had a similar situation while visiting with a girlfriend - her toddler daughter had the flu and threw up in my lap at a restaurant. The next day Mom came down with it so I had to take care of the baby and the toddler and Mom. Then the next day I came down with it. Way too close to motherhood for me at the time! We'll get there soon enough!
Glad to hear that Lincoln was a trooper through the flight and most of the day. All the changes are probably throwing his little system off (I've heard of them getting bad constipation from the stress of the change too!). I guess one good thing is that all of the new things keep him occupied for awhile just taking it all in! Fortunately he has great parents - with a great sense of humor - what more could one want?
Welcome to the real world of parenting! That was just the 1st of many interesting things that go along with having kids! I wish I had been there to see Eric! I can picture it in my mind and sure got a good laugh out of it. That poor guy that was trying to eat his lunch!
Lincoln has sure been taking all the new things that are thrown his way in stride.
I hope you guys can get out soon to come home.
Miss you much.
Love, hugs and kisses to all
Mom and Dad xoxoxo
Thanks for that laugh...
Glad Lincoln was a trooper I am sure he will do just fine on the plane ride home like you said in your post you just have to cordinate his feeding and naps with your flight schedules.
Be safe & give Lincoln hugs and kisses from me....
Denise
Wow --- parents for such a short time, and you've already experienced something we haven't. I was overcome with humor after reading your projectile vomiting story --- some [49%] from imagining Eric putting on his charades show, and some [51%] because Cori has never puked on me... I envy you your charades show...........
Isn't it funny how you have such a new perspective on everything now with a child? Every day just gets better and better (and easier and easier). My only bit of advice? Stock up on a few external hard drives now, because you WILL overload your computer with photos!!!
Tae care, and have a safe trip home!
Mike, Celeste, and Cori
You are too funny. Yuck! So much to look for ward to. Hey how long will you be in Almaty? Were at least passing though this week. I hope to stay in Almty one night to get our baring before we head on to Ust and all those meetings. I also know that Sarah and Jullian are there and Catalinea's passing through too.
That was a fantastic story!! Projectile vomiting is never pleasant but always funny. GO LINCOLN!
